Went to Grand Rapids today to pick up a G9 as my always with me camera and went downtown to shoot for a while with Dad. Lots of nice targets downtown but this hydrant really stood out against that blue wall. The wall is very small blue tile (maybe 3/4′ square) that varied in color which give it that textured look in the background. Not sure how you pass up yellow and blue….

Note, I shot the g9 today in the same situation as my D300 with a 50mm 1.4 and I got to say that thing is amazing for a P&S…. Really high quality RAW files coming out and the color is really good. More to come but seems like it might be a great solution when you dont want to drag the kitchen sink…. 59… pretty good…

Trying for a moody shot tonight. Got out the kettle and a coupe of speed lights and learned how to boil water. Here is the result.

On the processing – I am demoing Nik Silver Efex Pro right now. If you fondly remember days in the darkroom then you need to check this out. They give you full control of the image as well as toning and paper color simulation. The other key is they have replicated the grain structure of about 15 of the classic films. Really looks to be a cool tool. Good day 56

Really struggled with inspiration today… not sure why. Sometimes dark parking lots have some really interesting possibilities. Turned the headlights on and moved the cart in line to highlight the back. 55 done….

I stood her for 15 minutes just framing old dock #6, absolutely love the red brick and the blue sky with the old painted number. This is one of my favorites to date…. I has been a long time since I sat down at the computer and had my first pick in 30 seconds, usually it is much more painful ;-)…. Well 54 in the books, all down hill from here….

Went to my folks house today and asked my mom if she would mind me taking my POTD of her working on a drawing. She does pencil drawing in both charcoal tones and color and it is amazing work. I cannot even begin to explain the detail and hours that goes into one of these. For comparison below is the shot I gave her from the Elizabethan gardens in North Carolina. Hope you enjoyed day 53… Thanks bg

Went into a local coffee shop called Jumpin Java. Went in and introduced myself to the really nice folks working there and asked if I could shoot. They (Sebastian) were nice enough to give me all the support I needed including making some really cool drinks like the one seen here. This is the first in a series of local business photos I am going to take in my 365. If you are in Grand Haven get in there and check them out

Went to the store today and was fascinated by these brown pears. Really like their shape and texture. It also appears as if the one on the right might be leaning in to tell a secret while they are waiting for the movie curtain to go up… but I have been working with pears all day so your mileage may vary…. 51… done
